    What Is Mobile Phlebotomy?

Mobile phlebotomy is a service in which a trained phlebotomist travels to a patient's home or another eligible location to collect blood or other approved specimens for laboratory testing. The samples collected are then prepared and transported to the appropriate laboratory for processing.

More Than an At-Home Blood Draw

Mobile phlebotomy is one part of THRYVE's coordinated testing process. The labs in your plan are ordered automatically when you purchase, you book your at-home blood draw from your dashboard, and THRYVE then coordinates an eligible collection option, laboratory processing, secure result delivery and provider review when included in your care plan.

The phlebotomist's visit is one step in a coordinated testing pathway. Collection follows your lab order and, when included in your care plan, leads to a virtual consultation to review your results once they become available. This connects the convenience of an at-home blood draw with the clinical context needed to understand what the results may mean for your care.

For patients who are new to THRYVE, the process usually begins with choosing a plan (its labs are ordered automatically) and booking your at-home blood draw from your dashboard. A Telemedicine Consultation to review your results is included with the Comprehensive plan, or available as a one-time consult.

Who May Benefit from Mobile Phlebotomy?

At-home blood collection may be useful for:

    • Busy professionals who want to reduce travel and waiting-room time
    • Parents or caregivers coordinating eligible testing for family members
    • Older adults and people with limited mobility
    • Patients completing provider-ordered follow-up testing
    • People who prefer having blood collected in a familiar home environment
    • Patients completing eligible advanced diagnostic or biomarker testing

Mobile phlebotomy isn't the right fit for every test or every situation. Your provider determines whether it's appropriate for your specific circumstances, based on the test ordered and your location.

What Tests Can Be Collected at Home?

In-home specimen collection can support many blood-based laboratory tests, including selected biomarker panels and provider-ordered follow-up testing. The appropriate collection method depends on the test, specimen requirements, patient location and laboratory handling instructions.

Your THRYVE provider or care team will explain which tests are eligible for mobile collection and whether preparation, such as fasting, is required.

    • The test
    • Specimen requirements
    • Patient location
    • Laboratory handling instructions

Some tests use a patient-collected at-home kit instead of a phlebotomist-performed blood draw.

    How Mobile Phlebotomy Works

    1. Select

The labs in your plan are ordered automatically. Book your at-home blood draw from your dashboard.

    2. Coordinate

The care team confirms whether mobile collection is available for your test and location.

    3. Prepare

You receive appointment and test-preparation instructions, including fasting guidance when required.

    4. Collect

A trained phlebotomist visits your home, verifies the required information and collects the approved specimens.

    5. Process and Review

The designated laboratory processes the samples. Available results return through THRYVE's secure system for provider review and follow-up when included in your care plan.

Preparing for an At-Home Blood Draw

Preparation depends on the tests being collected. Before your appointment, follow the instructions provided by your care team or ordering provider. These instructions may include fasting, adjusting appointment timing or having identification and testing information available.

    • Review the testing instructions supplied
    • Confirm whether fasting is required
    • Have identification available
    • Drink water unless instructed otherwise
    • Choose a stable chair and clear surface
    • Tell the phlebotomist about previous difficulties with blood draws

Unless instructed otherwise, drink water normally and choose a clean, well-lit area where the phlebotomist can safely complete the collection.

Do not change medications or supplements unless instructed by the appropriate healthcare professional.

What Happens to Your Samples and Results?

    1. Prepared for the lab

After collection, the phlebotomist prepares and handles each specimen according to the applicable laboratory requirements.

    2. Transported and processed

Samples are transported to the designated laboratory for processing. Turnaround time varies according to the test and laboratory.

    3. Results delivered securely

When results become available, they are delivered through THRYVE's designated secure system.

    4. Reviewed in context

If provider interpretation is part of your care plan, your provider reviews relevant findings alongside your health history, symptoms, previous results and goals. Individual results are considered alongside related markers and relevant clinical information rather than interpreted in isolation.
